Here is a list of terms commonly used in the post production industry.

BEST LIGHT FILM TRANSFER

A telecine transfer performed with optimum settings of the colour corrector, but without final "shot to shot" balance. Typically , projects recorded to broadcast tape formats receive a "best light" transfer.

BETACAM SP

Broadcast quality 1/2 inch video cassette format developed by Sony Corp. using Metal (SP) or Oxide tape.

BETACAM SX

A digital tape recording format developed by Sony which compresses at 10:1 using a version of MPEG-2 at the 4:2:2 profile.

BUMPING UP

Transferring source material recorded on lower quality format to a higher quality format (i.e. from DV to Digital Betacam videotape).

BURN IN

When transferring tapes for offline editing, the time code on the tape is "burnt in" to display in a window over the video on the screen.
