Here is a list of terms commonly used in the post production industry.

CHARACTER GENERATOR

Electronic device that generates letters, numbers or symbols for use in video titles with a variety of options for font style and manipulation. Chyron is a brand name that has become a generic term for character generator.

CHROMA KEY

Method of inserting an object from one video source into the scene of another video source by using a solid primary colour background (usually blue or green) behind the object, and electronically replacing that colour with the background video.

COMPONENT VIDEO

Video signal in which the luminance information is recorded separately from the colour information i.e. RGB or Y, R-Y, B-Y (Betacam SP format).

COMPOSITE VIDEO

Video signal containing encoded picture and sync information.

COMPOSITE

To seamlessly integrate video and/or graphic scenes together through a video switcher or compositing software.
